The key is derived from your passphrase using PBKDF2 with 100,000 iterations so brute forcing it is not really something anyone's going to casually do. Just don't use "password123" as your passphrase and you're fine.

Pretty much, yeah. It pulls icons through Google's favicon service so it works on basically any public website Google has indexed. If a site has no favicon at all, you'll get a generic globe icon back — that's just what Google returns as a fallback, not a bug on our end.

Because Math.random() is not actually random — it's predictable if you know the seed. That's fine for shuffling a playlist but extremely bad for anything security-related like passwords or API keys. We use crypto.getRandomValues() which pulls from the OS's entropy source and is cryptographically secure. Proper random, not fake random.

Upload your logo or image, select the sizes you need (16×16 and 32×32 are the minimum for most browsers, throw in 48×48 and 256×256 if you want Windows desktop icon support too), hit Convert, then download each size. The Favicon Downloader is the exception since it has to reach out to Google's favicon service to actually grab the icon.

If you lose the passphrase, the ciphertext is essentially unrecoverable. Write it down somewhere safe. We're serious about that part. 🙏
